Your thoughts are
not our data.

GrindNotes does not transmit, collect, or store your notes or personal data on external servers. Privacy is not a toggled setting—it is the foundational architecture.

0 Accounts No registration, no logins, no user profiles
0 Analytics No tracking, no telemetry, no ad SDKs
100% Local Storage All notes and media reside in your Mac

Clarity is a cornerstone
of true privacy.

Grind Works Inc.(有限会社Grind Works) ("we", "us", or "our") provides GrindNotes (the "App") as a local-first application designed to respect personal data sovereignty.

Effective Date: August 16, 2026
01

Scope & Applicability

This Privacy Policy applies strictly to data handling within the macOS desktop version of the GrindNotes application.

For data handling on the Grind Works website (grinds.jp) and support web forms, the Grind Works Website Privacy Policy applies. When you choose to export files to third-party cloud storage providers (such as Apple iCloud Drive or Dropbox), those services are governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.

02

Zero Data Transmission or Acquisition

The App does not transmit, collect, or store your note content, media attachments, search queries, editing activity, or diagnostic logs on our servers or any third-party infrastructure. All operations execute strictly on your Mac.

  • No user accounts, profiles, or registration flows exist.
  • No analytics SDKs, telemetry trackers, advertising frameworks, or crash reporting hooks are embedded.
  • We operate zero central synchronization, ingestion, or cloud database servers.
  • No user content is ever routed through external cloud AI APIs.
In Plain Language

The App does not implement a mechanism that sends note content, searches, or editing activity to us.

03

Local Data Storage

Note content and metadata are stored in a sandboxed SQLite database on your Mac. Images, audio, video, and PDF attachments are stored within the App's protected local container under macOS App Sandbox boundaries.

We have no ability to remotely access, inspect, modify, or restore your local database.

04

Third-Party Code & Bundled Libraries

Because we do not acquire your data, we never sell, monetize, or disclose personal data to third parties.

Third-party rendering libraries used for mathematical formulas (KaTeX), diagrams (Mermaid), and charts (Chart.js) are bundled as static assets and run locally. They are not loaded from external CDNs or library maintainers.

05

External Exports & Folder Imports

When you trigger Markdown exports or folder imports, the App accesses only the exact directories you explicitly grant access to via native macOS file dialogs.

Data written to iCloud Drive or Dropbox is subject to the security terms of those respective providers. The App does not perform automated background cloud sync.

07

Support Inquiries & Communications

If you voluntarily contact us via support email or form, we use your email address, message, and any information or files you choose to include exclusively to resolve your inquiry and maintain correspondence records.

  • Retention Period: Inquiry records are retained only as long as necessary to address your issue and are deleted within a reasonable timeframe (unless legal retention obligations apply).
  • Data Minimization: Do not send sensitive note contents. We never require database dumps to provide troubleshooting support.
  • Your Rights: You may request access, correction, or deletion of your support correspondence at any time.
  • Legal Exceptions: We may disclose correspondence records only where required by law, subpoena, or to protect vital personal safety (note: local App notes cannot be disclosed as we do not possess them).
08

Retention, Trash & Deletion Lifecycles

You maintain complete control over data retention inside the App.

  • Trash & Permanent Deletion: Deleted notes are moved to Trash. You can permanently delete selected notes from Trash or empty Trash to delete all of them. Permanent deletion cannot be undone.
  • Asset Retention: Unreferenced media files may remain in the local asset vault for re-use until explicitly purged by the user.
  • App Uninstallation vs Container Data: Dragging the application to macOS Trash may leave application container data intact. Always perform a full Markdown library export prior to system migration or reinstallation.
  • External Backups: Copies written to Time Machine, iCloud Drive, or external media must be managed directly by you.
09

Security Architecture & Encryption Notice

The App enforces strict Content Security Policies (CSP) to block arbitrary remote script execution and operates inside the macOS App Sandbox.

Native Encryption Notice & FileVault Recommendation

GrindNotes does not implement proprietary layer encryption over the SQLite database or exported plain Markdown files. To safeguard against unauthorized physical access or device theft, we strongly recommend securing your Mac with a strong login password and enabling macOS FileVault (full-disk hardware encryption).

10

Policy Revisions & Entity Information

We may update this policy to reflect software evolution or legal compliance. Material changes will be published here with an updated effective date.
